Funding Tenders
New section on possible tender opportunities on offer

Big Lottery Fund Announces Details of a 'Lighter Touch' Version of the Reaching Communities Programme for England

The Big Lottery Fund has announced that at least £100 million a year is to be invested across England, in an improved version of its Reaching Communities programme, for each of the next five years.
SEE http://www2.biglotteryfund.org.uk/prog_reaching_communities

The main aim of Reaching Communities is to help bring real improvements to communities and to the lives of people most in need.  The new funding, which will be introduced this spring, comes with two distinct improvements.

Firstly, applicants seeking smaller sums of money - up to £40,000 a year - will be able to access this funding more easily, with a simplified application and assessment procedure.  Secondly, a two-stage decision making process for larger bids will ensure that all applicants learn sooner whether their project is likely to receive funding.  For those invited to the second stage, the likelihood of success will be higher.

Additionally, a third element, due to be launched in the autumn, will comprise a dedicated capital stream, responding to the high, unmet demand for funding for community buildings.  This element will fund medium-sized refurbishments, new builds or extensions to community centres and village halls, meeting local community needs and aspirations.

These changes are a response to the Big Lottery Fund's Big Thinking consultation, which took place last year.

Applications to the current Reaching Communities Programme, for grants of between £10,000 and £500,000, may be submitted at any time

Children in Need - Small Grants Programme

The programme is open to any third sector organisation working with children and young people under the age of 18.

Older People's Programme

Comic Relief is inviting the voluntary and community sector throughout the UK where older people aged 65+ are developing ideas for action and change, to submit applications through their Older People's Programme. Examples of the types of projects they will fund include; bringing the generations together to learn from each other through, for example, the creative arts or IT; older people acting as a resource to other older people and supporting those who may be less physically and mentally able; projects that are engaging hard to reach groups; activities which generate profits to further social or environmental goals, such as community cafes run by older people. Most grants are expected to be of between £15,000 and £40,000 per year. Grants may be for up to 3 years. The next closing date for applications is the 21st May 2010.

Partners in Derbyshire feel that ‘bringing people together’ in local communities is a vital part of improving overall quality of life in Derbyshire.

A key element of the strategy is to strengthen local community events and projects which help to bring people together.

To help more local groups run such events  the ‘Bringing People Together’ Fund is available to provide grants of up to £2000 to  local community, faith and voluntary groups across Derbyshire  to help deliver community projects taking place before 30 September 2010.

Examples of how the fund could be spent are:

• Activities that bring young people from different backgrounds and areas together

.• Older people’s groups sharing experiences with local school children.

• Activities that help neighbours get to know each other better.

• Activities that connect schools with the wider community.

These are just examples, but projects are likely to involve arts, food, heritage or community benefit, and be aimed at promoting a sense of belonging and community.

Applications can be submitted at any time until 16 July 2010.

New drive to boost number of women playing sport

Sport England has announced a £10 million National Lottery funding round designed to get more women active, particularly women from disadvantaged communities and those caring for children. At present only one in eight women regularly take part in sport compared to one in five men; some of the reasons behind women's low levels of participation include time constraints, childcare, transport, cost, confidence and friends to go with.

Sport England is calling on a wide range of community groups and sectors to make applications to the Active Women fund, including those who have not previously considered applying for funding. The Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation is helping Sport England share with potential applicants what they need to consider in shaping sport delivery towards the individual needs of women. If you would like further information about the fund go to www.sportengland.org.

NCVO is a partner in BingoLotto, a new TV Game that gives 20% of its gamecard sales to good causes. We will be distributing this good causes money to our voluntary and community sector members. This is a tremendously exciting opportunity that could make a real difference to our sector by providing organisations with a source of independent, unrestricted income.

We really support BingoLotto and encourage you to make the most of this opportunity. Spread the word so that as many people as possible get to hear about BingoLotto and make it a success.

Hosted by Ulrika Jonsson, there have already been two
BingoLotto Games shown on Virgin1 on Sundays at 7pm. Gamecards are being sold for £2 in all Tesco stores and the more tickets sold, the more money there will be to go to good causes. Make sure people keep their receipts to be eligible to claim the prizes.
